AMANI: Art You Can Wear

Fashion can be more than something we wear. It can become a canvas for memory, identity, emotion and imagination. For artist and designer Tanya Sarig, clothing is the beginning of a story — not the end of it.

AMANI is a wearable art project created by Tanya Sarig in Tel Aviv. Her practice explores the space between fashion and contemporary art, transforming existing garments into unique, hand-painted pieces.

Rather than treating clothing as a blank canvas, Sarig works with the character already present in each garment — its shape, construction, seams, texture and history.

Clothing as a
Living Canvas

The philosophy behind AMANI is simple but powerful: a garment does not have to lose its past in order to become something new.

Sarig uses acrylic paint to transform pre-owned garments into wearable artworks. Every painted element is developed in relation to the individual garment, rather than being treated as a conventional surface print.

The result is clothing that occupies an unusual position between fashion object, painting and personal artifact.

Sustainability
with a Personal Meaning

Sustainability is an essential part of the AMANI philosophy. Instead of producing another new garment, Sarig begins with clothing that already exists.

Pre-owned pieces are given another life and another identity, while their original character remains visible beneath the transformation.

This approach challenges the idea that sustainable fashion has to look minimal, neutral or purely functional. In AMANI, sustainability becomes a space for imagination and self-expression.

"The most meaningful piece is not the one everyone recognizes — it is the one that feels like you."

The Rise of
One-of-One Fashion

The fashion industry is experiencing a broader cultural shift. As consumers become increasingly surrounded by mass-produced imagery, products and recognizable logos, individuality becomes more valuable.

The idea of luxury is changing with it.

Future Luxury

Customization
over conformity.

For younger generations, luxury may increasingly be defined not by how many people recognize a brand, but by how personal and impossible to replicate an object feels.

A garment existing in a single example — one-of-one — can carry a different kind of value: the value of authorship, individuality and personal connection.

AMANI naturally belongs to this emerging landscape. Hand painting, experimental visual development and meticulous craftsmanship turn each garment into an individual artifact rather than another repeatable product.

When Fashion Becomes
Personal

What makes AMANI particularly compelling is its relationship with identity.

The purpose is not simply to make a garment more visually spectacular. It is to create something that allows the person wearing it to feel more connected to their own individuality.

In this sense, the clothing becomes a form of self-portrait — an external expression of something internal.

Wear your
story.

AMANI suggests another way of thinking about fashion: not as a constant search for what is new, but as an opportunity to rediscover what already exists and transform it into something uniquely your own.
